Dharamshala is a very popular meditation centre among both Indians as well as foreigners. There are many retreats located in the vicinity of this town, which is situated in the tranquil environment of the Great Himalayas. Dharamshala is the seat of his holiness Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of a village called MC Leodganj under Dharamshala Municipal Corporation.

The literal meaning of Dharamshala is “Spiritual Dwelling”. It has an umpteenth number of temples, out of which some of the major temples are Masrur, located at a distance of 15 kms south of Kangra, Bhagsunath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, 2 kms from MC Leadganj and the Chamunda Devi temple, located 15 kms away from Dharamshala, dedicated to Godess Kaliwho according to the legends killed Chand and Mund at the vey place where the temple still stands.

How To Reach

By Flight: Gaggal airport (also known as Dharamsala airport) in Kangra valley is the nearest airport. The airport is 15 km away from Dharamsala. This airport connects domestic flights to Delhi. International travelers have to connect through Delhi Airport, which is about 520 km away from Dharamsala. Delhi Airport is connected to all major cities in India and abroad.

By Rail: Pathankot is the nearest Railway station for Dharamshala which is 90 kms away.

By Road: Well connected by Road from Pathankot, Amritsar, Chandigarh and New Delhi. Regular bus services are available in Dharamsala connecting the nearby cities. Direct private luxury buses are available from Delhi (520 km).
