Tour Month: from April to October
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
Upon arrival in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, transfer to your hotel and rest after your journey. In the evening, attend a briefing about the upcoming Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage. If time permits, visit the sacred Pashupatinath Temple for a spiritual start to your tour.
Day 2: Kathmandu
Spend the day exploring Kathmandu’s rich cultural heritage with visits to Swayambhunath (the Monkey Temple), Boudhanath Stupa, and Pashupatinath Temple. In the afternoon, complete final preparations for your journey, ensuring all documentation and supplies are in order.
Day 3: Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (Nepal)
Begin your overland journey by traveling from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, a small town near the Tibetan border. The scenic drive takes around 8–9 hours (appro. 152 kms), offering views of rivers, hills, and traditional villages along the way. Stay overnight in Syabrubesi.
Day 4: Syabrubesi to Kerung (Tibet)
Cross the Nepal-Tibet border at Rasuwagadhi and drive to Kerung, a small town in Tibet. Complete immigration formalities and enter Tibet. The drive is relatively short, taking around 3–4 hours (approx. 38 kms). Spend the rest of the day acclimatizing to the higher altitude. Overnight in Kerung.
Day 5: Acclimatization in Kerung
This day is dedicated to acclimatization to avoid altitude sickness as you ascend higher into Tibet. You can explore Kerung and its surroundings or rest and prepare for the journey ahead. Overnight stay in Kerung.
Day 6: Kerung to Saga
After breakfast, embark on a long drive to Saga, passing through the vast Tibetan plateau. The journey takes around 6–7 hours (approx. 245kms), with magnificent views of snow-capped mountains and barren landscapes. Upon arrival in Saga, check into your accommodation and rest. Overnight in Saga.
Day 7: Saga to Mansarovar Lake
Today is a highlight of the tour as you travel to the sacred Mansarovar Lake, located at the base of Mount Kailash. The drive takes around 6 hours (appro. 145kms), and you’ll be greeted by the breathtaking views of the turquoise lake surrounded by the towering Himalayas. Upon arrival, take a holy dip in the lake and offer prayers. Overnight stay near Mansarovar Lake.
Day 8: Mansarovar Lake and Drive to Darchen
In the morning, participate in a spiritual ritual on the banks of Mansarovar Lake, considered one of the most sacred lakes in Hinduism and Buddhism. Afterward, proceed to Darchen, the base camp for Mount Kailash. Prepare for the upcoming trek around Mount Kailash (known as the “Kora”). Overnight in Darchen.
Day 9: Trek to Deraphuk (Day 1 of Kailash Kora)
Begin the three-day Kora (circumambulation) around Mount Kailash. The trek from Darchen to Deraphuk covers approximately 12 kilometres, taking around 6–7 hours. The route offers awe-inspiring views of Mount Kailash and the surrounding landscape. Spend the night in a guesthouse or camp at Diraphuk.
Day 10: Trek to Zuthulphuk via Dolma La Pass (Day 2 of Kailash Kora)
Today is the most challenging day of the Kora, as you ascend to Dolma La Pass (5,645 meters), the highest point of the trek. The pass is considered highly spiritual, and pilgrims often leave offerings here. After crossing the pass, descend to the Zuthulphuk valley for an overnight stay. The total trek distance is about 22 kilometers and takes 10–12 hours.
Day 11: Complete Kailash Kora and Return to Darchen (Day 3 of Kailash Kora)
On the final day of the Kora, trek for 10 kilometers back to Darchen, completing the circumambulation of Mount Kailash. This part of the trek is easier and takes around 3–4 hours. Upon arrival in Darchen, rest and celebrate the completion of your spiritual journey around Mount Kailash. Overnight in Darchen.
Day 12: Darchen to Saga
After breakfast, begin the return journey by driving back to Saga. Enjoy the scenic landscapes of Tibet as you retrace your steps. The drive takes around 7–8 hours. Overnight stay in Saga.
Day 13: Drive Saga to Kerung
Continue the drive back to Kerung, which takes about 6–7 hours. Rest and prepare for re-entry into Nepal. Overnight in Kerung.
Day 14: Kerung to Kathmandu
Cross the border from Tibet back into Nepal at Rasuwagadhi and drive to Kathmandu, a journey of around 8–9 hours. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and relax. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.
Day 15: Rest Day in Kathmandu
Spend the day at leisure in Kathmandu. You can explore local markets, buy souvenirs, or revisit important sites like Pashupatinath Temple.
Day 16: Departure from Kathmandu
After breakfast, transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your flight back home, concluding your sacred pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar.
