Jain Pilgrimage Tour Program – Gujarat
This 11-day Jain pilgrimage takes you across some of the most sacred and important Jain temples and heritage sites in Western India, offering a spiritual journey through the heart of Gujarat. From the ancient temples of Palitana and Mount Girnar to the majestic Dilwara Temples of Mount Abu, this tour combines religious significance with the serene beauty of Jain architecture, spirituality, and philosophy. The tour provides an opportunity for pilgrims to seek spiritual peace, visit historical landmarks, and immerse themselves in the tranquil surroundings of Jain sanctuaries.
Day 1: Arrival in Ahmedabad
Arrive in Ahmedabad, where you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you may visit some local Jain temples like the Hutheesing Jain Temple. Rest and prepare for the pilgrimage ahead.
Day 2: Ahmedabad – Excursion to Mahudi – Vadnagar – Taranga Hill
Begin your day with an excursion to Mahudi, home to the revered Jain Temple of Ghantakarna Mahavir. Continue to Vadnagar, known for its ancient Jain heritage, and explore the ruins of old Jain temples. Proceed to Taranga Hill, one of the most important Jain pilgrimage sites in Gujarat, known for its beautifully carved Ajitnath Jain Temple. Return to the comfort of your in Ahmedabad
Day 3: Ahmedabad – Bhavnagar (180 km / 4-5 hours)
After breakfast, drive to Bhavnagar, a city known for its cultural heritage and proximity to key Jain sites. Arrive and check into your accommodation.
Day 4: Bhavnagar – Palitana Excursion (50 km / 1.5 hours one way)
Early morning departure to Palitana, one of the holiest Jain pilgrimage sites. Shatrunjaya Hill features 863 temples, with the most prominent dedicated to Lord Adinath (the first Tirthankara). Ascend the 3,800 steps to reach the top of the hill (dolis are available for those unable to walk). Spend the day exploring the temples and absorbing the spirituality of this sacred space. Return to Bhavnagar for an overnight stay.
Day 5: Bhavnagar – Junagadh (215 km / 5 hours)
After breakfast, drive to Junagadh, an ancient city with a rich history and a significant Jain pilgrimage site. Explore Junagadh’s Jain heritage, visiting local Jain temples and enjoying the historic ambiance of the city. Overnight stay in Junagadh.
Day 6: Visit Mount Girnar
Begin early to visit Mount Girnar, one of the most sacred sites for Jains. Girnar is home to several Jain temples, the most significant being dedicated to Neminath, the 22nd Tirthankara. Ascend the mountain (approximately 10,000 steps) to visit the temples at different levels, each offering a stunning view of the surrounding region. Return to Junagadh for an overnight stay.
Day 7: Junagadh – Ahmedabad (315 km / 6-7 hours)
After breakfast, drive back to Ahmedabad. On arrival, spend your evening relaxing or exploring the local Jain community in the city, perhaps visiting the Sheth Anandji Kalyanji Trust or other local temples.
Day 8: Ahmedabad – Mount Abu (230 km / 5 hours)
After an early breakfast, drive to Mount Abu, Rajasthan’s only hill station and an important Jain pilgrimage site.
Upon arrival, explore some local attractions. The spiritual beauty of Mount Abu, surrounded by the Aravalli Range, offers a peaceful retreat.
Day 9: Mount Abu (Dilwara Temples)
Spend the day visiting the world-famous Dilwara Temples, renowned for their intricate marble carvings and architectural excellence. The temples, dedicated to various Jain Tirthankaras, include the Vimal Vasahi and Luna Vasahi temples, considered masterpieces of Jain art. Explore the scenic beauty of Mount Abu, including Nakki Lake and Guru Shikhar, the highest point in the Aravalli range.
Day 10: Mount Abu – Ranakpur (155 km / 3 ½ -4 hours)
After breakfast, drive to Ranakpur. Upon arrival, explore the Ranakpur Jain Temples, one of the most impressive Jain temple complexes in India. The Chaumukha Temple, dedicated to Adinath, is a marvel of white marble architecture
Day 12: Ranakpur – Udaipur
Drive to Udaipur. On arrival enjoy a short city tour of Udaipur, visiting landmarks like City Palace, Jagish Mandir and Sahelion ki Bari. Later enjoy sunset boat ride on Lake Pihcola.
Day 13: Depart Udaipur
Depending on your departure time, transfer to Udaipur Airport or railway station for your onward journey, concluding your Jain pilgrimage.
