This itinerary balances spiritual visits with relaxation time, providing travelers with a deep dive into India’s Christian landmarks at a relaxed pace. The journey covers historically significant churches, pilgrimage sites, and community traditions that have shaped the legacy of Christianity in India.
Day 1: Arrival in Goa
Arrival in Goa by flight, check-in to your hotel, and unwind after the journey. Begin with an introduction to Goa’s Portuguese influence, visiting the Basilica of Bom Jesus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site housing St. Francis Xavier’s relics, and the Sé Cathedral, one of Asia’s largest churches. Enjoy some free time in the evening to explore Goa’s vibrant culture.
Day 2: Goa
Spend a relaxed morning exploring St. Cajetan Church, inspired by St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Later, visit the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, Old Goa’s oldest church, followed by the Chapel of St. Catherine. Enjoy an evening at leisure or stroll through the markets for a taste of local life.
Day 3: Goa to Mangalore
Morning short flight to Mangalore; check in and relax before an afternoon outing. On arrival visit St. Aloysius Chapel, admired for its intricate frescoes. Conclude the day with a stop at Milagres Church, one of South India’s oldest.
Day 4: Mangalore to Kochi
Fly flight to Kochi, check into your hotel, and enjoy some relaxation time.
Day 5: Kochi - Christian Heritage Tour
Spend the day visiting Malayattoor Church, a revered site associated with St. Thomas the Apostle. Explore the historic St. George Forane Church in Edappally, a prominent pilgrimage destination. Enjoy traditional Kathaka dance performance at a local thearer
Day 6: Kochi to Kottayam
Travel by road through scenic Kerala to Kottayam, check into your hotel, and enjoy some relaxation time. Later visit Vimalagiri Cathedral, noted for its stunning Gothic architecture, followed by Cheriapally (St. Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Church), dating back to 1579. The evening is at leisure.
Day 7: Kottayam to Trivandrum
Drive to Kerala’s capital, Trivandrum, with check-in and relaxation at your hotel. Visit St. Mary’s Cathedral in Pattom, a hub for the Roman Catholic community. Next, see Vettukad Church (Madre De Deus), a popular pilgrimage site, and CSI Christ Church, one of the oldest in the region. End the day with a restful evening.
Day 8: Trivandrum to Chennai
Fly to Chennai and settle into your hotel with some time to unwind. Start with San Thome Basilica, built over St. Thomas the Apostle’s tomb. Then, visit St. Mary’s Church within Fort St. George, India’s oldest British Anglican church, followed by Luz Church, Chennai’s oldest.
Day 9: Chennai to Velankanni
Drive to Velankanni, upon arrival spend the day at the Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health, renowned for its miraculous healings. Participate in Mass and other local spiritual activities. The evening offers an opportunity to explore Velankanni’s serene beachside or rest.
Day 10: Velankanni to Chennai - Departure
Drive or take a train back to Chennai. Use the last day for reflection or optional visits to additional historic churches before departure. Consider visiting local markets or taking a heritage tour of Chennai if time permits. This program offers a blend of spiritual enrichment and relaxation, allowing travelers to explore Christian landmarks across India while enjoying the unique hospitality and landscapes along the way.
